Has this violin been sold previously? I am curious why it was made in 2007, but just recently put up for sale.  — Kent

Hi….

nope. We subject the violin to “rest” for some of our higher level instruments.
We also subject it to tonewood tuning using loudspeakers for extreme high
and low notes, in our sound chambers. This gives the violin better response
and allow the violin to break in quickly. So when the player picks it up, it no
longer sound like a new violin.

TJ at 3 weeks

Like his mummy, TJ has a really round face, especially at certain angles, like the above pic which is almost a perfect circle. The past few weeks has been gratifying and although it was many sleepless nights, it recharged me.

The past 2 weeks has not been total rest though. I was in and out of the workshop, developing some new products. They will surface soon. I’m also planning to launch a charity programme with iCare, a UK organisation who is in China building orphanages and schools. I am looking at sponsored painted violins and then auctioning them off with proceeds going to sponsor children to school. I plan to visit early next year to conduct the violin painting competition.

Well Christmas is approaching fast. And soon a new year will be here, and TJ’s smile tells me it will be even better.

I’ve just returned from a music fair. During the last 4 days has been very exhausting for me. The first thing after my return was to prepare for all my outstanding shipping that I had to make during the last 4 days and now that most of them are done, I can start to reply all my mails. I get about 60-80 emails a day and after the 4 days you can imagine my workload. Well, I’ve made many replies this morning and afternoon. Here’s a recent screenshot of my computer screen. I hope to complete them hopefully by 2am today, latest tomorrow. For me, no emails get unanswered.

TJ and Jehpin

Today arrived all the goods I ordered, some were early and some were late. As a result, my store and studio were overflown and I had to leave them in the living area. Not exactly an ideal environment to bring up a child. After I unpack them, I will quality inspect them, set them up and take some photos.

Picture Gallery using Dalbum

I’ve decided to use Dalbum for my online inventory photo display. I figured I will add Flickr only later. Dalbum has dynamic generation of thumbnails on request, which may be faster compared to Flickr’s instant generation. Although the use of tags on Flickr would be very useful in filtering various products quickly. But I really wonder how often I will tag my images.

The link for Dalbum is http://www.dalbum.org/

Plans for jehpin.com

Dear Diary,

I have lots of ideas for my domain, and I’ve tested many platforms to see which is the most suitable. I’ve tried Drupal CMS but found it too complicated (too much manual coding to do). Blogger too, but thought the lack of an out of the box category and static pages feature is too costly for my plans. I also wanted to display my photos, personal and those of violins on this website. For this I tried Google Picasa Web albums, which at first seemed like the perfect solution when combined with Blogger and my PC’s version of Picasa, and of course Gmail too. But later I found I needed to display the available inventory of my violins on this site, and there’s no easy way for me to display them on Blogger, except to point to a Picasa Web Album folder.

So….. I am settling now on this combination:
- Using Wordpress to display my diary of work and play using the chrono blog;
- Wordpress to display my travelogues using the static pages;
- Wordpress static pages to pull an RSS feed of the latest violins from Flickr;
- Using Wordpress chrono blog to chart progress at my violin workshop;

The good thing about Wordpress is the ability to integrate any PHP coding into any portions of my website. This makes customising a useful start page possible in future as the website grows (although some coding is necessary). The availability of PHP also opens the website to many possibilities due to the many open source scripts available. For this I’m thankful. Ok. I think that’s all… any further I may run the risk of being branded as a nerd.
