Hello Jehpin
My violin arrived in perfect condition, very fast delivery thank you. The bridge height was a little high for me because I have big fingers that can touch the other strings, I simply removed it and trimmed it about 1.5 mm (if you remember I have a precision machine shop) it has a lovely voice. The extra set of Perlon strings improved the tone of my other violin considerably from the steel core strings it came with, It is varnished with modern lacquer and had a “twangy” tone like a banjo before.

F.Y.I. Previously I bought a violin from another ebay seller which I returned because the instrument was airbrush painted to simulate the wood grain, I really appreciate the craftsmanship of your product. I have only one suggestion, it would be a nice touch if the luthiers name was inside the violin, if my Grandson takes it up, one day after I am gone he will always know who made the instrument.
Regards
Geof

This is a design of the next generation of violins with more than 4 strings. I am very happy and encouraged by many of my customers who have contributed to make this design possible. I have combined all the ideas and tested them on a few models at the workshop with my Vecchio maker. This is a 6 strings violin. But the unique design of this violin is that it has the body of a small viola with the length scaled down to 354mm. That is small enough for a warm hi E string that will remain pleasant to our ears. We increased the archings, and combined with the wider viola ribs and adjustments in the bass bar, a clear low F string is also made possible. We’ve increased the fingerboard slightly to accomodate the 6 strings. And we are very happy with the outcome of the tone achieved by this violin. We’ve already built this for 2 of our orchestral customers, who have been very happy with them so far. And we are happy to bring this unique violin to players looking for good flexibility. We see this as a major breakthrough in our design in modern violins. Oil varnished. Matching maple, sides, neck and scroll make this a beautiful masterpiece. Back:354 upper:168 middle:110 lower:211 ribs: 36 nut width:28 (mm)

I kept this copy for a long time before releasing it to a good old friend reseller.

We think we have finally made a breakthrough in our varnishing technique at the Opera workshop. We knew we were having some trouble breaking out of our Opera Guarneri Cannone type of varnishing, which became our highly successful model and becoming the top seller for many of our resellers. This year in 2009, we concentrated mainly on renewing our techniques on the top spruce. We feel it is quite nice. Available for order now. Stocks arrive in 3 weeks.

Dear Jehpin

The violin has arrived – today – thank you

I would like to provide some initial feedback – since I am a small violin dealer my comments are meant to be honest and helpful.

Positive:

the violin is absolutely stunning – I am totally blow away

the case is equally stunning – please tell me where it is made – I want more.

not so positive:

I believe I ordered a baroque bow as well as an upgrade to a pernambuco bow – unfortunately the baroque bow did not arrive can you check on this please – this bow is intended for my daughter who is professional . The pernambuco bow is okay but not at the level of the violin – the bow calibration (curve) is wrong most noticeable at the tip hence it is very weak at this point – the sliver finishings are superb the neck of the violin has moved down resulting in the finger board being too low – I will have to reset the neck (this I am happy to do).

I will be showing this violin to my daughter (hopefully she doesn’t steal it away from me – as I mentioned she is professional) as well I will be showing it to members of the Vancouver Symphony and professional violin makers. Despite the missing bow and the issues mentioned above I will want to order/bid again.

Your service in responding to my emails was first rate – thank you – and please let me know about the baroque bow and where these cases are made (is it China?).

Sincerely,

Robert

**********Reply***********

Hi Robert

Thanks for your feedback they help me improve my products. The bow you had was a regular pernambuco. I suggest next time you can try my top pernambuco or master sticks. These have much improved response and balance, and makes for a sweeter tone.

The cases are made in China, but the model I send you is a custom model I have asked my supplier to make for me. These specs are feedbacks from previous customers. I simply took note of them when I talk to my supplier. eg. changing some screws to better quality ones, using better YKK zippers, changing the hygrometer to ones that actually works, and linings inside the case.

Next month I will have a whole new range of cases. I think these will be some of the best cases you can buy anywhere in the world. Shops can sell them up to USD1000 each. So watchout for my cases.

Shall I send the baroque bow to you now urgently? Or is it ok if I send it up on your next shipment? If next shipment, I can pass on the savings by including a brazil bow together.

Regards, JP
