| This is a good quality violin by Shanghai violinmaker Wen. He uses wood from Yunnan, different from those makers located in Beijing. Northeast wood has a different characteristic in that it is more dense. more solid. Most violins made in Shanghai uses these types of wood. When I commisioned this maker into Old Violin House’s network, I thought this will be a nice addition to the variety of violins in the current collection. This tonewood achieves an outstanding projection and volume and skillful calibration of the top and bottom tonewood by our maker ensures the instrument produces a big, brilliant, rich tone. A great violin for all occasions. | |

| PERFORMA violin are violins tuned for the best performance. When we say toned here, we are referring to tuning of the violin raw material during the violin making process. As we all know every piece of wood is different, and hence have to be made slightly differently as well to bring out the best sound it is capable of. Made of seasoned tonewwods.
After the violins are made, they are tuned and tested by our most stringent violin teacher to separate them into 5 different grades according to their flaming and sound. Performa violins have a characteristic balanced and mellow tone, and is known to improve a lot with time and consistent playing. This violin belongs to the highest grade: 5 star in Performa workshop. | These violins are made in 2005, but right after that time my maker changed his varnish to a different style. This style of varnish is different from his catalogue, hence he had not shipped them out since because his new orders is all according to the new models. And so he kept the violins hanging in his tonewood drying shelter and time passes…. in one snap it became 4 years. When I was with him at the workshop I asked him what he wants to do with it. He ask me to buy but I have to buy all of them. So in haste I bought them all. After I bought them and paid, me and my teacher set it up properly and we were quite impressed with the tone quality. Hanging air blown for 4 years had done something good to the violins.
So this lot of violins becomes The Performa 16, a special lot of violins at the Ovistrings Performa workshop. These violins are made with 12 year old tonewoods in 2005 and after it is being made, it is airdried for 4 years before it is being brought to the market for purchase. So now it is about 16 years old (and so the name Performa 16). These extra dry violins are limited in quantity and represents a unique experience as a new violin, yet not so new. For those who had been buying my violins for some time now, you might have seen these violins last year. I sold about 15 of these last year. This violin has excellent good feedback on the tonal qualities. It is so good that I am considering making them now to be sold in the year 2012. So for now the remaining 18 pieces, buy them before they are all gone. Really |

The top priority in the making of this violin is making it with a strong powerful and clear tone that is instantly responsive to your strokes. Hence this is a suitable instrument for solo performance. Chosen for this model is the excellent flamed chinese maple back, bookmatched. The top spruce is 15 years Engelmann spruce. There is good transparency for the maple, giving strong hints for future development for projection as the violin ages. Professional concert quality. | |
